Package Tour in Phnom Penh

The Royal Palace of Cambodia is a complex of buildings that serves as the King of Cambodia’s royal residence. Its full name in Khmer is Preah Barom Reacheaveang Chaktomuk Serey Mongkol. The Cambodian monarchs have occupied it since it was built in the 1860s, with the exception of a brief period when the country was in turmoil during and after the Khmer Rouge’s reign.

National Museum
The museum houses one of the most extensive collections of Khmer art in the world, including sculptural, Khmer ceramics, bronzes, and ethnographic objects. Its collection contains over 14,000 items dating from prehistoric times to periods before, during, and after the Khmer Empire, which stretched from Thailand to present-day Cambodia and southern Vietnam at its peak.

Wat Phnom

Wat Phnom is a Buddhist temple (wat), a pagoda that symbolizes the name Phnom Penh, and a historical site that is important to Khmer culture. Wat Phnom is 46 meters tall in total (150ft). The pagoda is named after Lady Penh from the story of the five statues discovered: four Buddha statues and one Vishnu statue.

Toul Sleng Museum

To house victims of purges important enough to attract the attention of the Khmer Rouge, a new detention center was planned in the building formerly known as Tuol Svay Prey High School, named after a royal ancestor of King Norodom Sihanouk, the five buildings of the complex were converted into a prison and an interrogation center in March or April 1976.

Killing Field

The Killing Fields are a collection of sites in Cambodia where the Khmer Rouge regime (the Communist Party of Kampuchea) killed and buried over one million people during its reign from 1975 to 1979, immediately following the end of the Cambodian Civil War (1970–1975). The massacres were part of a larger state-sponsored genocide.

Central Market

The Central Market is a market as well as an art deco landmark in Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital. The bright yellow building, completed in 1937, has a central dome 26 meters high, with four tall arch-roofed arms branching out diagonally across the block, creating vast hallways housing countless stalls and a wide range of goods. Designed initially by city architect Jean Desbois, construction was overseen by French architect Louis Chauchon. When it first opened in 1937, it was said to be Asia’s largest market; it still operates as a market today.

Silk Island

Discover beautiful rice paddy farmlands, idyllic countryside, and quaint traditional Cambodian villages renowned for their lemongrass, banana plant, ginger, and corn pastures, and visit silk weaving houses where you’ll have the opportunity to buy a scarf made by hand the old-fashioned way.

Just over a month into my trip and I wonder how I’ve changed, if at all. Certainly the experiences I’ve had and things I’ve seen have shaped me in someway.
